Tell us about your business, including the products or services that you offer and what makes you unique:
The Depot Merle Norman is a small retail, makeup business located right in the heart of downtown. The Merle Norman franchise has been around Rocky Mount for many years with being owned and operated by the late, Vanessa Carter. After taking over her franchise, I quickly realized the amazing benefits, quality and broad range of makeup that Merle Norman offered. Once taking over the franchise, we were unable to secure a location for quite some time, and after meeting various women around time for their product, we finally found a spot at 230 Franklin Street. This second floor location wasn’t ideal, but we need to be opened. After realizing the huge space, we decided to form The Depot. The Depot was formed to allow small business (local) to join and showcase their items in a storefront location. After a year of being open we grew to over 25 small businesses that include, clothes, pet products, jewelry, purses, puzzles, faith based items, woodworking, art, and so much more.
Why did you choose Franklin County for your business?
It is bitter sweet to be at 230 Franklin Street, as that is the old location of the Perdue Lumber building, which was own and ran by my grandfather, so it is nice to be operating and running a small business in my hometown.
What small businesses do you enjoy visiting in Franklin County?
I have so much respect and love for all of our vendors. I love that Sun and Spruce has all-natural soaps that smell amazing, my mom uses the all natural pet products by The Clean Canine, I swear by Earth Essentials’ Wound Solution for my kids’ scraped knees and “booboos”. We have two vendors that are under the age of 13, Aiden, who makes fabulous candles, and Blakely, who has a broad range of products for any fashion forward style.
After being the owner of Merle Norman for over a year, I have come to love the product line. A vast majority of my skin care and makeup is specifically Merle Norman, and I can now see why I was meeting these women in parking lot and at my home for their beloved product. I can promise once you try Merle Norman, you will continue to need the product. With over a 190 shades, 4 finishes, and 13 formulas; you are sure to find that perfect match and foundation you will love for ages. Not to mention, their skin care is top tier.
