As we help celebrate this occasion, let’s take a closer look at what sets this family owned business apart and learn more about the three generations who have dedicated themselves to providing unparalleled service for 60 years.
Superior Retreading Service, LLC
History of Superior Retreading Services, LLC:
Superior Retreading Service has been a family-owned business in Rocky Mount, Virginia, for three generations.
Roy Eggleton constructed a new commercial building on Rt. 40 West (Franklin Street), Rocky Mount, and opened a new tire shop for business in the Fall of 1963. He operated the business until his death in 1966.
After Roy’s death, his son, Richard Eggleton, took on the challenge of continuing to keep the business going when he was only 19 years old. He successfully owned and operated it until his death in 2020. He believed in servicing the tire needs of the community based on honesty and integrity. When his health was declining and he was unable to be at the tire shop daily, one of the things he missed the most was being able to see and talk to his many customers. They were not just “customers.” They were his friends!
Richard’s son and daughter, Matthew Eggleton and Amanda Eggleton, continue to operate the business based on the same principles that were set by both their father and grandfather.
Superior Retreading Service recently held a Customer Appreciation Day to celebrate its 60th anniversary, 1963 – 2023. The turnout was great, and the support of customers, family, and friends in the community was overwhelming!

Supporting Small Businesses:
We try to support as many of our local small businesses as possible. Whenever we have a need for a product or a service, the first thing we do is search for it through a local business or, even better, a customer. It’s important that we continue to support each other so all of us can benefit. As an example, when planning our recent anniversary celebration, we contacted local small businesses for our banner, door prizes, food vendor, and painting our building.
